The National Council held their regularly scheduled meeting in Lancaster, PA on May 20-22, 2006. During this weekend-long meeting several important issues were discussed.

Grand Chapter Conference + National Convention = 1 action packed 4-day affair! The National Council voted and approved the combination of the Grand Chapter Conference and the National Convention events into one combined event to be held during the summer (beginning in 2007). The benefits of this combination include:

1. Reduces expenses and time required for Brothers and Chapters to attend national events (travel in particular) allowing for greater time investment in local/regional affairs. Funding provided by universities will allow more Brothers to attend one combined event versus spreading out the funding over two events.

2. Instant gratification – Right now, awards are granted in mid-November for the previous school year. This combined event allows Chapters and Brothers to be recognized for their achievements much sooner.

3. Simplifies and reduces the financial vulnerability of event planning in the Fraternity’s budget, which allows more Staff time and funds to be focused on improving chapter support and other development areas.

4. As a result of years of improvements, the National Constitution is reaching a phase where minimum change is nearing: a trend reflected by the decrease in amendment submissions. The amount of time required to accomplish the task of revising/improving our governing documents is lessening and Phi Sigma Pi should adjust to accommodate this trend.

5. Potentially, the National Council will be able to announce the following year’s location at the current (not 2006) meeting. This allows a year to build excitement and have the chapters and Brothers start to planning much sooner. More details on this decision will be shared at the Grand Chapter Conference.
